TSN 510 A V-Ring Seal

The V-ring seals (fig) consist of a V-ring and a sheet steel sealing washer with vulcanised rubber lip which fits into the sealing groove in the housing. The washer is protected against corrosion. The V-rings are made of nitrile rubber (NBR) and have a slim sealing lip which seals axially against the sealing washer. The V-ring "body", which sits tightly on the shaft and rotates with it, also serves as a flinger. V-ring seals provide efficient sealing even under difficult operating conditions such as high speeds, rough finished shafts etc.
Operating data
V-rings can be operated at peripheral speeds of up to 12 m/s, but at speeds of more than 7 m/s they should be axially located on the shaft. V-rings can also be used at speeds greater than 12 m/s but it is then necessary to prevent them from lifting from their seats, for example, by providing a pressed steel support ring. The corresponding rotational speeds are given in the table. Recommended dimensions for appropriate support rings for axial and radial location will be found in the table.
The maximum permissible misalignment of shaft relative to housing is approximately 1,5° for shaft diameters up to some 50 mm and approximately 1° for larger shafts of some 150 mm diameter.
The permissible operating temperature range is –40 to +100 °C.
The permissible axial movement of shaft relative to housing is limited to ± 1 mm for shaft diameters up to 65 mm and to approximately ± 1,2 mm for larger shafts.
Designation
The V-ring seals are supplied in packs of two, so that for housings at shaft ends where an end cover is used at one side, one seal will be left over and should be kept as a spare.
The designation of each seal consists of the prefix TSN followed by the size identification and the suffix A e.g. TSN 509 A
