Cam followers are specialised needle type bearings designed to follow cam lobe profiles. They are similar in operation to a standard bearing, but instead of an inner race they have a solid stud mount.

Needle type cam followers can achieve high speeds but havelimited axial and thrust load capacities. For higher loads, roller elements can be used instead.
